Lori's Bridal Shower

Stay with me on this one.......my mom's BFF Londa's daughter is getting married and I helped put together her bridal shower a few weekends ago!

It was so fun getting to create and decorate for this wonderful occasion.  Lori knew she wanted a bright look to the event (her bachelorette party was NEON themed)!

We decided to go with white linens from the country club and I brought in the rest.  Most of the decor I made from things I had thrifted (chalkboards out of old photo frames and cool vintage vases using looking glass spray paint).  I also made bra & undie cookies for thank you favors for all the guests.

Overall I think Londa & Lori had a wonderful day and I couldn't be happier to help them celebrate!

Birthday Boy

Happy Birthday to my love, Ken.  He turned 27 on June 28th and we had a wonderful weekend celebrating him.  For starters we went to dinner with my family at Geisha House.  We enjoyed teppanyaki and a great show from Chef Will.

My beautiful niece Makenna came to party!

Ken's younger brother, Karl, and his girlfriend, Christal, came to town to spend some time with us.  It is was fun to see them since we live so far away now.  Our weekend was full of dinners out, the pool, a movie and an embarrassing minute to win it style game (videos to come soon)!

Nothing says Happy Birthday like a little Mariachi music and a shot of tequilla!

We braved the 117 heat to walk aroud Town Square and enjoyed dinner at the Meatball Spot

They found"Vegas Hats" and Karl's, of course, was camo.

Thanks to everyone who helped make Ken's birthday a blast.  Until next year...

Celebrating

Today is the first anniversary of Ken and I owning a home.  I can still remember getting the keys to our house and sleeping in it, even though we didn't have a bed, just because it was a huge accomplishment for us.

We still have a lot to do on our house to decorate but we love it! Here are some of the big purchases we have made the past year to make our house a home....

  •  We bought a new couch!  Ken wanted something comfy and I wanted something cute.  We compromised and ended up with a huge charcoal grey couch with hounds tooth print.

  • When we were first married we bought a dining room table but I couldn't find chairs I liked....or that I could afford.  Last April, we got these chairs and added a bench that can be pulled up if needed.  I love our little dining room and we have enjoyed many family dinners here!

  •  For Christmas my parents got us a new bed.  I am beyond thrilled with the one we chose and I think it looks great up against the grey wall.  Now we just need new nightstands, a dresser, a mattress, and the list goes on.......  But we are happy and it is slowly but surely coming together!

Cheers to another great celebration!

Married & Merry

A few weeks ago a dear friend of mine tied the knot.  I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid and couldn't have asked for a more wonderful partner for my friend Amanda.  Jon and Amanda got married in Scottsdale, AZ and it was the most fun wedding I have ever been to (no offense friends of mine that are married)!

We got into AZ on Thursday night and stayed with our friends Rachel & Jarod.  Friday night we had the rehearsal dinner at Fogo de Chao, which was delicious.  Below are some pictures of us & our wedding party gifts.

Saturday the girls finished getting ready around noon and left to take pictures at the beautiful venue - Sassi in Scottsdale!

Sorry for the Photo Bomb! We just love you both so much and are so happy to have gotten to share this day with you!

So congrats to the newlyweds Mr. & Mrs. Weeks!

Murphy's Law

I'm sure Ken won't be too happy with me posting about his little accident but I felt it was definitely blog worthy.

Some guys from Ken's work started a flag football team and begged Ken to join since he had played all through high school and college.  They showed up at the fields completely unprepared (i.e. someone ordered the flags from China and they hadn't arrived yet, they had never practiced together as a team, and they didn't have enough people at the beginning of the game).  They bummed some flags off of a ref and began the game one player short praying for the best.

After the first half the Caesars team was down. The team they were playing against was a seasoned flag football team with plays and routes and even a coach. (Ken's team in red)

I was the only person there that came to watch and I brought some wine to keep me company! It was cold and windy so I ended up in Ken's hoodie to keep my hair from flying everywhere.

About two minutes into the second half Ken came running over to the sideline with his hand in the air.  His ring finger was down, like in the ASU hand sign, and I thought it had been ripped off. Good news was that is was still attached...bad news was it was just flopping on his pinkie and he couldn't move it.

We loaded up in the car and I drove him to an urgent care to get it looked at.  We thought it was just dislocated with how it was hanging but the doctor later confirmed it was broken in two places.  Neither one of us thought to take his ring off before it really started to swell...oops.  The doctor thought he was going to have to cut off his wedding ring  but we ended up doing some cool tourniquet and used some lube to pull it off.  Once the ring was pulled off the doctor proceeded to tell Ken, "If your finger wasn't broken before...it sure is now."  Geeze, thanks doc!

He has had to be in a splint for a few weeks and it should heal on it's own.  I guess the moral of the story is that whatever can go wrong...goes wrong for Ken.  Needless to say Ken, or Murphy as we should call him, will be out for the rest of the season.

Here is his finger after the ring came off
Poor Ken....

A wedding to remember

This weekend Ken and I traveled to Scottsdale to see Wes and Ashley get married.  Scottsdale is beautiful this time of year and they had planned on getting married in a friend's backyard.  Unfortunately mother nature had other plans.

On Saturday morning a group of us headed to the wedding and reception site to find it flooded.  The back yard was on a slope, and the tent where the festivities were taking place was at the bottom of said slope.  The bride and groom's fathers came to help as we tried to collect rain in buckets and trash cans and squeegee water from the dance floor and isle.  A tree had even fallen over because the ground was so wet.

Wes was there with us and a few hours before the wedding decided that they needed to move the wedding to another location.  With the help of all of us we were able to find a beautiful venue, a friend of a friend lent us her house, moved the entire wedding (tables, chairs, center pieces, bar, etc) and set up for 100 people in a little under 4 hours.

Wes and Ashley are truly a beautiful couple and we were happy to help a friend in need. It's funny how we think we are in control, but all the planning in the world won't prepare you for what God has in store.  God has a plan for each of us and sometimes it's hard to see the silver lining when all you see are rain clouds. The wedding ended up beautiful and the bride and her groom were just happy to be marrying their best friend. Congratulations to you both and we were honored to be there to help you celebrate!
